What’s
it for? What’s it all about?
Consider
this : after food, clothing and shelter, what did our ancestors do?
They started painting the cave walls. They started carving and moulding.
Above all, they were making marks – leaving their mark.
We
are still doing it, as we have done throughout the ages. In many different
ways and forms we are still making our marks, and leaving our marks.
Perhaps
in so doing, showing that Art is one of the quintessential aspects of
human existence, of being human – of being us.
Thus
Art says something about us; says something to us about the human condition.
What is it to be us, and how we perceive our existence and place in
the world.
On
a personal footnote my own particular aim is to explore the illusionary
and allusive qualities in art and perhaps to reaffirm the relevance
of craft, skill and artifice – at best. At worst - just leaving
a mark.
I
hope you find something that says something to you. Feel free to contact
me with any comments, queries or whatever.
